It is time for WinTumblr to go open source. I have not been motivated to add features or improve the client for awhile now even though I have some great ideas. Tumblr v5 has added the ability to edit and delete posts - that would be nice to do through WinTumblr.

A minor update coming this weekend
There will be a minor update coming this weekend all thanks to ndn for fixing and updating a few things in the codebase.
Click-Through-Url
The Write API now includes a Click Through URL option (Thanks Marco!) This will enable you to allow someone to click your uploaded picture and be sent to some or other web address. I’ll find some time soon to implement it.

Testing v1.5

Proxy Settings are Done
I am testing out proxy settings for Wintumblr. This should allow Wintumblr to be used from behind a corporate proxy server. It seems to be working as this post originated from behind a proxy.

Holidays Kill Productivity - status update

Status Update
I moved to a new home, got married, and finally got access to the internet again. Life just has a habit of getting in the way doesn’t it. I’m on holiday now and I promise to start implementing the promised features. Expect a new beta version in 2 weeks.

Tumblr v3 == New Upload Options
Tumblr v3 allows Videos and Audio to be uploaded. These are a little tricky to implement as they require checking account status and upload limits. I will be updating WinTumblr to support these new features as soon as I can.

You can safely close the Post windows
The threading works wonderfully it seems. I tested by posting an image and closing the form while it was posting. It still notified me that it had posted.
Version 1.4.1 Released
I could not take knowing there was something wrong. I was disabling the entire Post window while posting. Now I only disable all the controls inside that window. It means the cursor displays a nice hourglass and the window is responsive. Just don’t close it while it is posting – I don’t know what will happen. Also fixed a minor error in the Chat Post window. Cursor not updating properly
The cursor is meant to change into an hourglass when posting. However due to the added threading and the way I disable the Post window this no longer occurs properly. I have a solution that will be implemented in the next minor release.
WinTumblr Version 1.4 Released
Automatic insertion of <br /> and the removal of the hidden newline and carriage return character. This may cause more grief than joy and I may revert this behaviour in a future release. Small bug found
If the “Run on Windows Start” menu is checked then WinTumblr resets the registry setting on every startup. This is only a problem if you run a different version of WinTumblr as the last run version will be the one to start with Windows. I am working on a few interface enhancements and will fix this bug when I release the new version in about one week from now.

WinTumblr Version 1.3 Released

Fixing the issue
It turns out that you have to URL encode the strings before uploading to tumblr. I have now tested out the change made to WinTumblr and I am pleased to report that everything works wonderfully. Version 1.3 will be up shortly.
Solution found to missing text problem
Thanks to Marco I have a good idea about what to do with the missing text problem. I’ll begin working on a solution right away and have a new version up shortly I hope.
The low down on missing text posts
It seems that you cannot use the extended HTML characters such as –. WinTumblr allows you to just paste the character you want though and it will work.
Testing cut off posts
I have placed the password right at the end of the data sent to tumblr and it still cut off part of a link post. I originally thought that the entire post message was not getting through and was expecting to have it fail when the password was not received. This was not the case. The problem is also very intermittent and I cannot easily reproduce it. I suspect the fault may be in certain characters...
Sometimes text goes missing
Seems that some text in a post made from WinTumblr sometimes goes missing. It doesn’t matter how much text was used. I’ll be looking into this problem. Perhaps it is simply a matter of changing the order of the parameters.

Minor font size change = V1.2.1
I made a very minor change to the font size in each text entry box. I have increased the font slightly to 11pt from 8.25pt. This change makes it a lot easier for me to read what I am typing. I got a second opinion when choosing a suitable font size. So ignore my last post about making it user-settable as I will not be doing that. I also fixed some very minor UI issues in this release. Larger fonts?
I am thinking of using a larger font in the text boxes. This should make it easier to use. I’ll try it out with user settable font sizes in the next release.

I will have WinTumblr version 1.2 up soon. There will also be a new version of the tumblr.cs file as it is what changed.
Accented Characters - Solution Found
Accented characters seem to be working now. This happened due to my inexperience with unicode character sets and how the web handles them. I was encoding everything to ASCII and I should have been encoding to UTF-8.I’ll be uploading a new version of WinTumblr as soon as I have tested this change in every place. So please give me a day. Thank you again Peppeg for pointing this issue out.

Limits on field sizes in the API?
It seems there may be size limits on fields, such as this text body, when posting through the write API. I’ll look into it.

WinTumblr spotted in the wild
WinTumblr used by an actual person! Check out the post on w8in wasting time. I know a few others are using it already, but this is the first post that I know of that claims the source. Thank you everyone who has tried it out so far.

Failure to shutdown while running.
There seems to be an issue when trying to shutdown a machine while WinTumblr is running. I’ll look into this as soon as I can.
